Zelda’s Holiday Gift Guide 2017

Some call it the most wonderful time of the year. Others call it a commercialized, expensive anxiety dream masquerading as fun. I most definitely fall into the former, but I can understand the concerns of my friends in column number two. Gifting can be stressful! There’s a lot of pressure to find the perfect something for that special someone, and with not enough time to thoroughly shop or funds to buy that perfect item, sometimes it can seem like you’re just being set up to fail.

But that’s where we come in! On Tuesday, Scout brought you her gifting picks for this holiday season. And now, it’s my turn. The only thing I love more than shopping for presents is shopping for presents without spending any money, so this post is always one of my favorites to write. Without further ado, here are my 2017 picks!

For the one who’s always the hostess

Marble and Copper “Cheers” Cheeseboard: Guaranteed to class up any gathering, from game nights to dinner parties to night cheese fêtes for one.

For the one trying to make the most of a New York-sized kitchen

Smitten Kitchen Every Day: Triumphant and Unfussy New Favorites: Deb Perelman has long been one of my favorite foodie folks on the internet. I wrote about her first cookbook for Required Reading. Five years later, she’s finally back for round two!

For the one who needs a pick-me-up in the morning

Enameled Mug Set: Gin Creek Kitchen is full of fun, beautiful treasures for your Southern (or Southern-inspired) home, but this is one of my favorites. And if you want to take it to the next level, pair it with a coffee subscription from your favorite roastery (I’m personally a fan of my one-time employer, Louisville’s Heine Brothers).

For the one who wishes it were Derby every day of the year

Jonathan Adler Bourbon Candle: Bringing you all the good aromas of freshly-baked pie with none of the work.

For the one who’s clearly a soldier in a petticoat

Votes for Women Enamel Pin: Fighting for your rights never looked so cute. (Pairs well with its sister pin! Really, I adore all of Kate Gabrielle’s Flapper Doodle designs: They’re the perfect combo of whimsy and don’t-fuck-with-me.)

For the one who’s listening religiously to Harry Potter and the Sacred Text

Pottery Barn Teen Harry Potter Bedding: My personal favorites from this swoonworthy collection are the enchanted night sky duvet cover and the Marauder’s Map pillow. (And yes, that pun back there was 100% intended.)

And for the one who’s whipping up a batch of Butterbeer while they listen

Harry Potter Apron and Spatula: It seems all your favorite muggle homegoods retailers are getting in on the Potterverse. Now you can bake cookies and display house pride (go Gryffindor!) at the same time. Throw in a cookbook and you’ll be chowing down on cauldron cakes faster than you can say “accio baked goods.”

For all of us feeling like this

Obama: An Intimate Portrait: [insert sobs of despair here] Also, if you are not following Pete Souza on Instagram, you are MISSING OUT.

And finally, for that very, very special someone in your life

The Strand Book Hookup: Seriously, has somebody been reading my dream journal? You no longer have to drag yourself out of bed to get the experience of my favorite New York bookstore (and one of my New York happy places in general). It will come to you.
